“Machines and Freedom”

“Machines and Freedom” Lecturer: Jeff Foss

This lecture will examine how the human body is an energy producing machine, and how the use of external machines has enabled humans to free their bodies from enslavement as mechanical beings. Consequently, this lecture will examine how our relationship with external machines has evolved, and ask participants to consider how human nature will change in the age of information technology?

Jeff Fost Lecturer Bio:
Jeff Foss has been teaching philosophy at the University of Victoria since 1984.  His interests include philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and philosophy of nature. He teaches courses in philosophy of science, and his most recent book is titled Science and Philosophy: The Broad Spectrum of Issues.
